Consent forms and your treatment plan
Signing is quick. Reading takes ten minutes, and those ten minutes protect you more than almost anything else on the trip.
Before treatment you will usually sign a consent form for each procedure and agree a written treatment plan. Check that you have an English version, that the plan lists every tooth and treatment, that risks and alternatives have been explained, and that the price and guarantee match what you agreed. Do not sign anything you have not read or do not understand; ask questions until you do.
The Oral Health Foundation stresses that you need to fully understand the treatment and be able to ask questions, and warns that language barriers can lead to misunderstandings. The consent form and the treatment plan are where that understanding is written down.
The treatment plan
It should show:
- Every tooth, by number, and what will be done to it.
- Implants: number, positions, brand.
- Materials for crowns, veneers and bridges.
- What happens on this trip and on the next.
- The total price and what it includes.
- The dentist’s name.
The consent form
A consent form for each procedure, such as extractions, implant surgery, sinus lift or tooth preparation, should explain:
- What the procedure is.
- Its main risks (for implants, for example: infection, nerve injury, implant failure).
- Alternatives, including doing nothing.
- What to expect afterwards.
The dentist should talk you through it. The form records that conversation; it does not replace it.
Before you sign
- Get an English version.
- Compare the plan with your quote.
- Check the guarantee is mentioned or attached.
- Ask about anything you do not understand.
- Take a photo of every page you sign.
If something feels wrong
If the plan has changed and you are not sure why, or you feel rushed, stop. Say you would like time to think. You can call your UK dentist. Treatment that cannot wait a few hours is rare.
Common questions
Can I take the forms away to read?
Ask for them the evening before if you can, or take a quiet few minutes in the clinic. You should never feel rushed.
What if the form is only in Turkish?
Ask for an English version or a written translation. If none exists, ask the coordinator to translate each part and note that on the form.
Can I change my mind after signing?
Consent can be withdrawn before a procedure starts. Ask what refund applies to work not yet done.

Ask Precious Dental for a written plan
Send an X-ray or a few photos of your teeth. A dentist will reply with a written plan and an itemised price. No obligation, and you can compare it with any clinic in this register.
